Sony Bravia EX700 Series 46-Inch Deals

I've had this TV for a couple of days and it exceeded all my expectations. I have been in the market for a new TV since November of 2009. I have done a ton of research and I believe that for the money this is one of the best TVs in the market. I looked at the Samsung LEDs and while they are good TVs, I find the glossy screens are distracting with all the reflections it creates. This can definitely be troublesome if your house has big windows next to the TV like mine does.

At the end, the Sony KDL-46EX700 was the perfect TV. Some of the great features include: ambient light sensor (the backlight changes depending on the amount of light source in the room), internet capabilities (Sony has a ton of widgets), exceeds energy star ratings, presence sensor (turns TV off when it does not sense a person in the room), motion flow control and finally a attractive modern clean design.

As for picture quality the TV shines on all level. I have U-Verse cable and the picture looks great in HD and SD. The picture quality on DVD is great, as well as, the Netflix streaming. Blu ray quality is out of this world.

As for sound quality, I am uncertain as my TV is connected to a home theater system. I really have nothing bad to say about this TV. The only knock that I have on this TV if any, is that the remote looks cheap. It does work, however, so I really can't complain. Plus I plan on replacing it with a universal remote.

Pros

Getting a matte screen was the top consideration for me, as I live in a room with intense sunlight. If you are putting the TVin a bright room, it's one of the better options I found at this price point. There is excellent color accuracy. Greens are actually natural green, not neon as they appear on other brands. Very good black levels. I think the HD content is incredible. The Motionflow setting (120hz) is great for sports, but turn it off for movies and most other content. Excellent looking TV design. The ultra thin screen is striking. The automatic ambient light adjustment is a nice feature. The internet content is decent - particularly Netflix and Amazon on Demand. Be aware that not every movie in the Netflix catalogue is downloadable, and also be aware that only some of the content for Netflix and Amazon is in HD (this will probably improve with time, though). You can hook the TV up with an ethernet cable, or go wireless with a USB adapter (though it costs another $80 to purchase from Sony). This was easy to set up. The menu is easy to navigate. I like the various screen modes for different content. There are a thousand ways to customize the picture to your liking. Unlike some of the Sony models in recent years, the stand does swivel. Very energy efficient.

Cons:

Contrast does diminish a bit when you are off center, but no more than other LCD's I have seen. It would be nice to have a separate Motionflow button on the remote for ease of access. The sound is thin, although you can improve it with some tweaks. If you are going to use it with a home theater, it doesn't matter. If you aren't, you might find it substandard. The Presence Sensor is a bit gimmicky - you won't care that you have this 10 minutes after you set it up. There is some noticeable judder on certain content, but I set the TV to the CineMotion Auto 2 setting in Picture Adjust - it seemed to smooth this out a lot. I can't discern much benefit from the LED edge lighting, other than the fact that it allows for the thin design.

This Sony LEDTV is very nice, The picture was very clear and sharp. The TV came with picture presets that was way too high, with some adjustment the blacks was very black and the picture just show vivde colors and sharp details. Love the way it looks, thin and stylish.

Con : The sound coming from the speakers was weak and hollow, but any LEDTV this thin would not have great speakers, just use an surround sound system.

Not sure why anyone wouldn't give this a 5 star rating. So easy to use and set up, crystal clear picture if you are watching anything HD. This isn't even for sale yet here on Amazon but I bought this at a local dealer yesterday and it is perfect. Apps work great. We have amazon prime and i am watching a movie as I type. We got the 50in and could not be happier.
I shopped for a long time and here is why I got the Sony.

#1 It supports amazon instant video. (Many brands do not even if they are wi-fi enabled.)
#2 The Sales man said Sony has the best picture Quality (Samsung is 2nd but they don't support Amazon video service.) From the show room Sony looked the best.
#3 Size 50 inch is perfect not too big or small.
#4 1080p 240hz. The higher these #s the better the picture.
#5 simple, no 3-d or extras we would never use. Keeping the price affordable.

I decided to purchase this model about a week before Christmas. I was hoping to have it delivered before Christmas but I knew it was going to be close to make that deadline. I was very happy when I got it on the 24th. Setup was very easy. I turned on this wonderful tv and all I can say is WOW. I did not want to leave the house until I properly bonded with this Sony HDTV. The picture is so good that I think I saw God at one point...

In recent years Sony seemed to be losing much of its TV Mojo. Consumers were increasingly reluctant to pay a couple of hundred bucks more for a Sony, when lower-priced brands like Samsung and LG and even upstarts like Vizio were rapidly closing the quality gap. The KDLEX645 and it's larger and smaller siblings should go a long way in restoring a little luster to the Sony brand. First of all there's the picture quality. It's simply brilliant, with deep saturated blacks and lifelike skin tones. It doesn't blow away the competition, like the old Trinitrons used to, but it's superior in a variety of subtle and intangible ways. The picture even improved somewhat after it had been up and running for about a week. This set includes all the Smart TV bells and whistles that you want and nothing that you don't want like 3D. And when you add up all the features, it's priced competitively with most other brands. It all comes packaged in a handsome black case that will ensure visitors come away humbled by the knowledge that they are far less worldly and intelligent than you are. My only real quibble is the navigation button on the remote. It's way too tiny for most western-sized fingers to use comfortably.

I got my 60ex700 yesterday and I am really happy with it. It is a great TV. There was a little flashlighting and uniformity is not perfect but it seems you can tune it quite a bit. There are an amazing amount of settings and I have it set to be more than acceptable for me. Great price on a great TV. Contrast is great with deep blacks and white whites. The motionflow is great also.

Furthermore, the sound is acceptable for normal viewing and much better than I expected due to all the people dissing it. I have a nice theater 5.1 setup but I don't want to use that for everything and the sony sound is just fine.

Netflix and internet stuff is great, the remote is fine. This technology is getting so good we are really picking nits at this point. I just hope it is engineered to be reliable and long lasting because I intend on having this in my living room for the next 6-10 years.

I am sure you can spend a lot more and buy a better TV with better picture quality but for this price... killer TV.

The only downside is the TV is so damn thin and light that I feel nervous holding the bezel when I have to put in the inputs. It is solidly built but it just looks so fragile.

Purchased this Sony HDTV almost a month ago to replace the 42" LCD in the Man Cave...so far, so good. I actually purchased the KDL60EX701 model...from what I can tell, there are no differences between this model and the KDL60EX700. So, here are my observations...

Setup - Easy. I have a single HDMI cable coming from the A/V receiver that plugs into the back of the HDTV, so it doesn't get any simpler than that. When you turn on the HDTV for the first time, you will be prompted to enter some basic settings...it's pretty straightforward and only takes a few minutes to complete. The menu setup is easy to navigate through...those of you who have PS3s & PSPs will find it really easy, as the menu system is identical to the ones found on those devices.

Performance - Excellent. Watching anything in HD on this TV is incredible. Everything comes at you in crisp and vivid detail. There are numerous settings you can go through to get the "perfect" picture...fortunately, I didn't have to change too many of the default settings to get the picture I wanted. I've watched Avatar a few times already and spotted something new I didn't notice from before! Sporting events show up great with very little or no blurring, which is always a good thing for a sports nut like me. SD broadcasts and DVDs aren't quite as crisp-looking as their HD and Blu-Ray counterparts, but that's to be expected of 480i/p. The only issue I have is that the colors tend to fade when viewing from a severe angle. However, the screen is so freakin' large...chances are you won't be watching TV from a severe angle on this thing.

Sound - Good. HDTVs like this are meant for home theaters, not stand-alone setups! However, I did play a couple of MP3 files from a USB drive just to hear the audio quality from the built-in speakers, and it was decent.

Extras - Excellent. The USB port is convenient for showing pictures and playing music from a flash drive. I have yet to use any of the Internet streaming features (Netflix, Amazon VOD,...) as I have been too lazy to connect it to my home network. It does come with a separate wireless adapter and a built-in LAN port for your convenience.

Overall - Excellent. The picture quality is just as good if not better than most of the other HDTVs currently available. I considered getting the 240Hz version of this HDTV, but there is no discernible difference in picture quality when watching sports or action movies (at least not for me). Bottom line...if you're not in any hurry to get a 3-D HDTV, or if you aren't finicky enough to want a full back-lit LED LCD, then I recommend getting this HDTV.

I purchased the KDL 60ex700 from Amazon in July of 2010. It was delievered via CEVA and their "white glove" installation of the TV and BDI Deploy Max 9649 stand exceeded my expectations. The CEVA folks actually built the stand in my home and indicated that was included in the "white glove" delivery. There is an abundance of material written about the picture/sound of this TV, so I will focus upon something else, the Internet capability. It took me a couple of days to secure a five-bar signal strength from my home router (90 feet away through four interior walls)to the SONY UWA-BR100 network adapter. I discovered that four or five bars are required to ensure continuous video operation for most internet applications. To get such a strong signal so far from the router I installed an Apple AirPort Express to boost the transmissions from an AirPort Extreme router. This setup works quite well and I recommend a signal booster, unless your router is within 30 feet of the TV.

I was pleased by the initial Internet offerings which include You Tube and many other content-based sites along with Sony's Michael Jackson catalog. The Internet videos load quickly and the quality can easily rival cable content. It seems evident that Internet access for television will soon bring real competition to cable and satellite providers. By combining Internet TV with more traditional delivery systems (cable/satellite), access to content is a bit more complex, but Sony's remote make the transitions quick and easy. However, entering text for searches is a bit like using a 60" cell phone. Sony would have done well to copy what Apple has incorporated into the iPad for such searching.

The TV also includes some unexpected features, like the ability to automatically power-down whe viewers leave the room and a nice "picture frame" set of photographs which permit the TV to appear like a work of art for hours at a time.

I am very pleased with my new television. It has an excellent picture and the remote is easy to operate. I have other Sony televisions and have never had a problem with any of them. I am also pleased with purchasing the TV from Amazon. I had previously purchased TV's for two or three online stores in the New York Area. These companies immediately called and tried to sell me additional products and extended warranties. I did not like their hard sell approach. Buying from Amazon was much different. Once I made the purchase there were no followup phone calls. They kept me well informed till the product arrived. I will continue to support Amazon with other purchases.

I am extraordinarily pleased with this purchase. I replaced a 12 year old Pioneer Elite 62" rear projection HDTV that was too old to support HDMI. It had an incredible picture for most of it's life but was starting to dim and the convergence was going away. The Sony's picture quality is just superb. The contrast is as good as most of the plasmas I looked at. The Gorilla Glass really makes a difference. It has the nice glossy look but no glare. It is far better in this regard than my Pioneer was. I still can't believe how thin it is when I walk past it. The off-angle viewing is really good as well. I've read that LCDs struggle in that area but I can't tell with this one.

I have an older Onkyo home theater receiver and I opted to connect all my HDMI sources (PS3, XBOX 360, Cable, Apple TV) to the TV and ran optical digital audio to the Onkyo. It just worked. My Logitech Harmony One controller had no issues controlling it.

The price really sealed the deal. At most places I looked the price was $750 higher than what I paid. I was worried about buying a TV online but the delivery was uneventful.

I have tried many tvs in the last year or so. Everything from samsung to sharp, and now this sony. I was looking for good picture quality (no clouding or flashlighting), the ability to properly reproduce 24 fps for movies and low input lag. Honestly, that's not too much to ask for, but apparently it is with the current tv market. Enter the sony nx tv. This tv has fantastic picture quality in hd cable, blu ray, and steaming (note I havn't used the tv without the local dimming option selected). There is very low input lag and makes playing ps3 games (gt5, dirt3, crysis2, bf3 beta) no issue at all. The internet features are fine, I don't use them that much, but, netflix and the apps are cool. The menu is very fast and responsive. Finally, the styling of the set is the best available. I can't say enough about this tv. At the right price, this is the best tv available, and this comes from someone who returned 6 tvs...

Sony BRAVIA KDL32BX330 32-Inch Deals

As the reviewer before me said, this set has the best picture quality! I made the bad mistake of connecting coax initially but the images were not too sharp so I thought I'd give HDMI a try.. eureka! It auto-detected and even auto-sized the screen so I'm using wide-screen format which takes up the entire screen (no black bars on the top or bottom). TV is very light too so won't worry about it falling and hurting kids. :-)

It has heaps of HDMI ports and even a VGA port where you can connect your laptop/computer (use it as a dual-monitor, etc.) Great for streaming sports from your computer to the TV/LCD.

I am impressed with the picture quality, especially HD obviously - the images are sharp, clear and life-like. In fact, I'll be shopping for a larger cousin of this model for my living room.

Still sticking with Sony after all these years...

The Sony Bravia KDL32BX330 looks great when you use an HDMI cable. It has 1366 x 768 pixels, but it can receive & display 1080p. I primarily use it for gaming on my PS3, which looks beautiful. The HDTV actually runs at 1080/24p when you watch bluray movies and it looks amazing. The HDTV does have a little motion blur, but it's hardly noticeable to the average viewer. The speakers are weak which is expected for any HDTV today. I use an Astro A40 headset for sound so it's no problem for me. I spent many hours researching which HDTV to buy for my room and I am happy I choose this 32-inch Sony. I highly recommend it, if you are looking for a small quality HDTV, with plenty of connections. This LCD does not match the picture of a Plasma, but it's still above average for the price.

I had a older 32" LCD TV from Sony. While it was the lower end of their lineup when I bought it, it had lots of things going for it. The colors were very good, blacks were much blacker than this one, and input/outputs had more options.

What this version has going for it is the extremely light weight. But besides that, this TV isn't much different than any of the other basic TVs out there (from other brands like Panasonic).

One thing I can't stand about this TV is the Audio Out. Its only 1 port (like headphone jack) and when hooked to a older receiver, the TV can correctly push out both channels all the time. As I write, I notice that it flucuates between pushing sound and cutting sound in the left speaker. I've tried different cables and different speakers and no dice. My older Sony LCD never had this problem because it had both Right and Left sound outputs.

Sony BRAVIA KDL40EX720 40-Inch Deals

Sony offers a variety (i.e. confusing array) of very similar TV models. I wanted a 60" screen, but decided on the EX rather than the NX once I understood the differences. In case anyone else finds themselves similarly confused, here is my take on the two models.

The NX costs $400-500 more than the EX, but seems to have the same basic TV inside. For me, the following features weren't worth the extra several hundred bucks:

(1) WiFi -- Wireless access is noticeably slower than wired for streaming video, so I wouldn't use that if I had it.

(2) Gorilla Glass -- The NX weighs about six pounds more, mainly because of the giant sheet of "Gorilla Glass" covering the front screen. Sony calls this feature a border-less "monolithic design", but I found it a bit silly. The TV looks border-less only when it's turned off. The NX actually has a slightly larger border than the cheaper EX model. But perhaps Sony expects their customers to not turn their sets on, and instead simply stare at a huge border-less $2500 black monolith.

(3) Dynamic Edge -- The last major difference between the two sets is something Sony calls Dynamic Edge. This is for those few picky people out there who whine that they can detect a small amount of white light bleeding in the border when viewed in a dark room at an extreme angle during a very dark scene. So Sony invented a way to automatically turn the edge LEDs on and off depending on the darkness at the edge of the image. Some purists claim the picture looks better that way, while others say it makes some images harder to see. Personally, I'd rather not have such a complex feature (i.e. failure prone) in my already very expensive TV set to remedy such a trivial issue. So I chose to skip that "feature" and keep another hundred in my wallet.

After watching this TV in my living room for a month, I'm thrilled I didn't go for the more expensive NX model. This set has a fantastic picture and great features. I especially like how the TV turns itself on when I power on my Sony Blu-Ray player, and I don't even have to fiddle with input settings. Every TV should do this!!

I was looking for a 32 inch TV to fit in a cabinet I had made for the living room. Most TVs in this size are pretty basic and was looking for something a little more high tech. This model of Sony fit the bill perfectly. The styling of the TV is really nice with a glossy black bezel all around and without the funny grey band on the bottom of the lesser 32s Sony sells. The screen is more of a matte look and is great in eliminating glare from nearby windows. I purchased the set primarily for the Internet streaming and so far this works great. I was disappointed that I had to buy the wifi adapter for wireless streaming but it works really well. If your lucky to have your internet close to the TV you can plug the ethernet cord directly to the TV. I have kind of a lousy internet provider but it didn't seem to effect the streaming to the TV. The TV found my home network quickly and connected easily. There was a software update and it did this quickly also. There are a number of internet sites that come up on the menu including Netfix, Hulu, You Tube ,Crackle, Amazon instant movies, Qriosity (Sony library) etc. Qriosity has hundreds of movies available including 3D movies. They are not free however and charge anywhere from $3-$6 depending on if you want Standard Def, High Def or 3D. You can watch the previews for free, however, which I did for several hours. The need for a blue ray player is questionable as there is so much content available through these internet sites. The remote has no keyboard so a lot of scrolling around for is required for doing searches on You Tube, kind of a pain. I have not tried the 3D feature yet so cannot comment on this. The picture is beautiful out of the box and required very little adjustment by me to make it perfect. The speakers, like most LED TVs are really bad and a sound bar or external speakers are a must. The TV satisfied most of the requirements I had and at a price that was quite reasonable.

To put it simply - the 3D in this TV does not work with the current firmware version. The top 1/3 of the TV is completely blurry in 3D mode regardless of the source.

After 10 calls, two months of waiting for them to send me nonsense like flash drives with ancient firmware that didn't work, polarizer lenses that didn't fit my glasses, a replacement TV, a visit from their repairman (who told me he would never buy a Sony TV), and finally just refusing to hang up until I got my call escalated, I *finally* spoke to a Sony engineer tonight. He got out a matching model and I talked him through reproducing the problem with this model and the online demo videos. It was almost amusing to hear him saying, "oh, that looks terrible! Oh, and this video is even worse!"

He promised he would take it to the software department, and then even called me back about 30 minutes later to let me know he'd taken the problem to the software engineers and they would be working on the problem. I'm sure it will be many weeks before an update is released, and I simply can't forgive the HORRIBLE Sony service (every call to their call center will be full of static and echos), but I am at least hopeful that a resolution will come eventually.

Other than the 3D, the TV is fine. The interface is a little clunky on some of the other features like bravia sync and the yahoo widgets, but it really shines if you hook up a PS3 and sony receiver. You can power on all 3 devices and control the PS3 from one remote. This is actually the reason I bought a Sony setup - I'm hiding my PS3 and receiver in a shelf behind the TV and wanted to be able to control the receiver from the TV.

If I had to do it all again, I probably would not buy Sony equipment - how do you put out a 3D TV and not bother to test the 3D component? But I'm content with this system now that I have it and can wait a while for the 3D fix to arrive

I researched which new TV to get for several months. I went back and forth between Plasma and LCD or LED. I went to all the usual stores and looked at the TV's side by side, trying to figure out which picture I liked the best. For a larger TV (bigger than 55") I liked the Sony 60EX500 the best. The colors looked the most natural to me. Some of the LED sets, the colors seemed a bit too bright and exagerated.

I have had the set about 5 days now, and I spent all Sunday watching TV. I watched a bunch of sports in HD. I watched some football that looked great. I watched some baseball that was so clean, it was better than being there. I watched some golf, and the details on the greens and course made me think I could read the puts as good as the caddies.

I watched a couple episodes of Wild Russia with the kids, and the colors were so bright and clean, while the blacks were dark but didn't bleed at all. I even watched the 5th Element in HD, and was amazed at how great that movie still is all these years later.

Overall, the picture quality is very clean and realistic. I was very impressed with the black levels of this set as well. To me, it had the best picture quality and features for the price.

I did not buy this tv from Amazon.com but feel compelled to review it here. I had a five year old WEGA 60" that was 720p but top of the line in it's day. Three months out of my 5 year extended warranty a blue haze began to appear across the bottom of the screen. I called Sony and they informed me it was the dreaded optical engine failure. I could take photos, jump through a couple hoops and they would give me a new 40", a 46" for $250 or this 60" for $550.00. Once you go 60 there's no going back so it was this set we bought. It arrived very timely and so far we love it (and love those class-action law suits). I went onto the AVS Forum and found a tech who had calibrated this same set. I carefully copied all the settings and WOW! Lotsa' punchy, realistic color yet not glassy, or candy looking. Blacks are deep and various levels of black are very distinguishable. I know I made a worthwhile upgrade when I find myself rewatching all my blu-ray dvd's to catch the detail I was missing before.
Only downside is sound. The old rear-projection lcd set had awesome sound. This thin model has little room for speakers and subwoofers. I have a surround sound system but will still invest soon in a small sound bar or some powered speakers for non-theater listening. Just hoping to set the record a little straighter. Sony customer service may have treated someone poorly but that shouldn't reflect on the review of this set. That's a review of their customer service. One last word. Careful calibration of any set can make a huge difference. Plan on doing it when you purchase a set.

I had a sony SXRD KDS-60A200 for about 5 years and started having issues. I called Sony for help and they said they would send me out this TV for a very small price. It was a win/win. I got a new TV and they get rid of some older inventory and kept a customer in the Sony family.

When I read the review on Amazon before the TV came, I was expecting a big PoS TV to arrive at my house. I gotta tell ya, the picture is outstanding, the setup was easy, more HDMI hookups than I know what to do with. This thing is great for gaming, blu-ray and everyday HDTV use. This years superbowl looked amazing. If I was to do a side by side comparison of a bunch of TV's in my living room I may be a bit more critical. If I was going from a large HQ plasma to this I may be a bit more critical. I jumped from a 5yr old 1080p that I was impressed with to this which is awesome. I have a big room to fill and the super plasmas and 3D TV's that are rated highly will run you about 3 - 7 grand for the same size TV. If you have that kind of coin to drop...more power to you. This is an outstanding TV which you can find for $1,300.00 that will still WOW your friends when they come over and serve all the mainstream technology. Let's face it...there is really not that much in 3D at this time so I'll hold off on that technology until prices come down and it solidifies it's market position.

As an added bonus...Sony's customer support became rock stars in my eyes with all their help.

We wanted a TV that had a nice picture for a nice price. We've been pleased with our current Sony TV, just needed one a little larger. We ordered the first TV and the box and TV arrived damaged. We figured this was just a fluke so we returned that one and ordered another TV. The second arrived more damaged than the first... all the Styrofoam corners were smashed and the box had been punctured at the bottom, breaking the area of the TV where the stand sits. We returned that one and went to a B&M retailer to purchase the TV. It appears that the damage is occurring in Amazon's warehouse before being sent to the customer, as both times the box appeared to be punctured by a forklift and then re-taped over that area.

I highly recommend the TV, just purchase it from somewhere other than Amazon!

Received this Sony 42" LED HDTV last week and I already own the 32" LED HDTV 1080p so I knew it would be just as great. Well it is better than I hoped it would be. Set up was super easy. The screen is sharper than my 32" size. You can watch this TV in a dark room and it adjusts to its environment. Same with a bright light on. From every angle you can see this TV clearly. This is in our living room. Perfect size. Highly Recommend this TV.

This TV by far is the very best on the market. I am a TV buff and IT Doctor. I know TV's and computers very well. I also have a keen eye for detail and artifacts. This TV is very good 5 STARS. There are three major great brands of TVs in the world today and Sony is ranked high on the list. Sony beats Samsung in all areas. Please compare side by side Samsung is a cheaper made TV.
Sony uses good parts from Japan. Samsung does not. I picked on Samsung because they are direct competitors with Sony. I do have Samsung TV's, but the higher end ones. Still Sony beats color, gamut, features, sounds and looks.

The picture will blow you away. SIMPLY AMAZING!! BREATH TAKING!! The sound on this set is better than on most other TVs. The speakers are actually pointed in the front and not the rear like most LED TV's so you can hear the voices clearly. The base sounds great too.

The stand is very strong.
The Bezel is very thin, but strong and sturdy.

The black colors are very dark in detail like in a plasma display and in fact the greys are perfect. The whites are super white.

This is the way an HD panel should be.

I am glad that I researched this TV for weeks before I bought it.

You are not going to get a MIT review from me. I waited for a few months for the release and then purchased the 55 inch when it became available. All I did was plug in the TV without making one adjustment. Every friend that watches this TV with me rates it a 5. The 3D is perfect for the living room - don't expect IMAX 3D. The TV is now $200 cheaper to buy and I really don't care because I am more than pleased with the quality. HD viewing on this TV is fantastic. The picture on some of my weekly episodes is so clear that it appears you are sitting next to the actors. It is a very strange experience to describe because the picture is so amazing. For the price, pony up - you won't be sorry.

P.S. Bought TV from Amazon. Not one complaint. The delivery guys setup the TV and took the box with them. Also bought the 4 year warranty because of my past experiences with other TVs.

I bought this tv for relatively cheap at $1200 shipped to the door including taxes, so my review takes that into account as well.

1. The good: This TV has a lot to offer, like the LGs and Samsungs it also has the 2d to 3D button that will give some depth to 2D picture. The TV is light, and thin...plenty bright for a living room with lots of windows. Sound is awesome. It supports HDMI ARC which allows it to control certain home theater equipment automatically which is totally awesome. However you do need to buy a special HDMI 1.4b cable Mediabridge Ultra Series - High Speed HDMI Cable with Ethernet 6 Feet Category 2 Certified - Supports 3D and Audio Return Channel <-- this one worked great for me, and it was cheap. Sound wise the TV is great but i still paired it up with a small system.

Mounting: the TV that I got did not include the base in the box, sony swore up and down to get it to me, but had a back order of 1-2 weeks. I chose to just get a wall mount and mount the TV. The OmniBasics wall mount i got that had a swivel arm, does not fit the TV perfectly because the TV's VESA mounts are made for rails to handle TILT stands, but its ok It fits with the arms showing a little bit on the bottom. But I thought Oh well it can swivel in and out and I am happy.

The 3D glasses look awesome, they are almost stylish... and 5 minutes of charge is all it needs for a whole 3 hour movie.

2. The bad: The Sony Entertainment Network or all the apps that make this TV fun is a very sluggish interface. I ended up just attaching my old ROKU XD which works a lot better. It says Motionflow XR 480. but NO its not a 480hz tv, its only 240hz but still is better than most 120hz and with the price I got, I am happy.

Additional 3D active shutter glasses are very expensive. The Menu system is not easy like my Philips TVs or LG TVs. Sony makes great hardware but besides PS3 they don't have good software or GUI development folks.

Tech support for Sony is off-shore, hence, not very good. While I don't mind someone in any part of the world helping me, I do take issue when I have to repeat my issues, name and phone number over 4 times to get the rep to understand me on top of when I am already frustrated with a missing part in the box (the stand or base of TV).

3. The ugly: There really is isn't any so far.

Other thoughts: The energy label says the TV uses $14 of electricity in the US for a whole year, which is awesome.

UPDATE: 1-month later still no stand from Sony after being promised overnight shipping several times. I just ended up mounting tv on the wall. Tv is awesome for gaming on my PS3 as well. Blu-rays look awesome!

Firstly, I must say that I am looking for a very good LED TV since I am one of those unfortunate few that can see Plasma flicker a mile away. I bought this TV after having returned a Panasonic GT50. This set's picture is not as good as the GT50 but I expected as much. The TV actually performed better than I expected with BluRay Movies as well as normal content from DirecTV etc etc. My big issue came with sports. I have to say watching football was horrible on this set. I tried all kinds of settings to no avail. Although I actually like the soap opera effect, I know to turn it off when watching fast action sports like soccer and football. Tried it with every setting on and off. Just very disappointing and downright embarrassing. I ended up returning this set and will purchase the HX850 and am hoping sports viewing will be better. All reviews indicate that the HX850 is much much better - just wish I didn't have to spend so much more. Wish me luck!

As for Amazon - I purchase everything from Amazon and will continue to do so. Being able to return a TV within the 30 day period gives you the ability to seek perfection. Amazon gets 5 stars!

Sony BRAVIA KDL46HX850 46-Inch Deals

This is really a superb TV. The settings right out of the box are probably the best you will ever

see. The Gorilla Glass2 is incredibly thin. This TV is about half the depth of the XBR HX929 and

is much lighter. To get the most out of this TV, I recommend the following:

1. Leave the TV in standard mode. Decrease the color saturation by 4% to 56. Turn off the presence

sensor and the light sensor. Set motionflow to standard (never use any of the others, including smooth,

as unpleasant background viewing will be very jumpy). When streaming SD set motionflow to OFF, otherwise

leave on standard as the motionflow manipulates the backlight to achieve localized dimming.

2. Set audio to standard and not dynamic. Increase bass to +8 and turn on auto-volume.

3. These settings should be used for all inputs including the special game mode. In my opinion, do not

use game mode.

4. For simulated 3D use the medium settings and not lo or hi. This seems to be the only one that works well.

That's about all there is to change. Best LED TV I've ever seen and that includes the XBRs. (I realize that

this TV is a 2012 model and the XBR is a 2011 model). I am sure the 2012 XBR will be spectacular, but as of now

this is the best LED TV on the market with black levels approaching the very best of the plasmas with much, much

better light transmission through the glass rather than diffused through a typical LCD panel.

I got this TV on a swap with Sony on the 21st of April, so far it has been AWESOME! (Sony took back my defective 820 and gave me a 850) 46' model. I will be comparing the HX850 to the HX820.

Pros:

*Slimmest bezel of any Sony TV yet
*Silver lining around the bezel adds a nice touch
*Input lag seems better on the 2012 850
*Less adjustment needed right out of the box, at least in my case.
*Speakers seem a tad bit better this year, but nothing to brag about.

Cons:

*Remote is garbage, Sony needs to bring back the remote they used with the HX820. A victim of cost-cutting.
*Illuminated Sony Logo is gone. Another nice feature butchered by Sony's new cost-cutting strategies of 2012.

So-So's:

*3D viewing seems to have improved overall over the 2011 HX820, however tilting your head at all will ruin the picture. Perhaps this is resolved with the new 3D glasses? I am using the TDG-BR250 glasses.
*Motion sensor is gone. Never really liked this feature, but it was a good idea.

Overall the HX850 is a superior TV to the HX820, which is saying a lot considering the HX820 was and is an amazing set. Black levels are similar to the hx820 (awesome) and picture quality has gone up. As always, Sony is king when it comes to displaying the correct colors, vibrant and colorful to say the least.

Just a quick note on how to fix the annoying issue of the TV going blank while gaming or trying to watch a movie; It seems that Sony is having a little fun with us with their eco settings and the TV seemingly interprets the change of source like a game or movie as an incorrect single and you will end up with a blank screen resulting in having to turn the TV off and back on again which is highly cumbersome;

The simple solution is as follows:

Click "Home" Button on the remote

Scroll down and select Settings

Scroll down and select Eco

Turn all Settings in the Eco menu to Off

Problem solved and you should have no issues with the blank screen going forward; Hope this helps and that you enjoy the TV as much as I do!

After my BRAND SPANKING NEW Samsung UN60ES8000 failed on me (see my review on that set if you're interested), I decided to try out this model. Oh dear lord is this an awesome tv. It's not going to win any awards for the best form factor since sliced bread, but the sheer screen size and beautiful picture is something you must see for yourself. I purchased the 70" model of this tv and couldn't be happier. It's a bit heavy at 60 or 65 lbs or so, but it's wall mounted to my articulating mount safely and securely. I still need to calibrate many of the settings, but for the average Joe, the three standard settings are plenty good.

In case some of you are gamers with Xbox 360s, be aware that you may have an "OH NO!" moment when the tv blacks out after your 360 starts a game/movie, but this is due to the tv's auto picture control not communicating with the system. I simply turned this automatic feature off and voila...no problems. (I somehow suspect Sony did this purposely, lol)

Oh yeah, and the 3D is cool I guess, but not really a fan of that stuff. The fact that this is passive 3D makes me happier than my previous tv with battery-powered glasses, but the fact of the matter is I won't truly adopt 3D until there are holograms in my living room and I don't need to wear glasses.

Anyway, back to topic...purchase this tv...at any size...with confidence.

I recently just got this and to be honest this is a downgrade since I have an XBR in the bedroom (small 32 inch) but just perfect for my living room.
This tv is exceptionally excellent with a sleek look that makes your living room so modern :D I am impressed on how the internet and widget tools are easily installed. Pretty easy and with Sony it already has Sony apps to rent/buy movies and it is also easy to setup for the ps3.
The picture quality is amazing. Obviously the XBR is much better but to be honest I can hardly tell that much difference.

The only drawback is the gloss and shadow if you have a bright room. Luckily my LR is pretty dark so its perfect with no flaw. If you like sports this tv is insane.

If you have a surround system it must be 5.1+ because it wont take white/red conponents for your basic speakers, needs to be optical if not you can always put it in headphones....

This has 4 hdmis and really light to lift.

If you can afford the price (should be 1200 imo) its an excellent sony tv that has more equal power than other competitors (LGs HD Cinema-Panasonic-Samsung-Sharp Quattro).

Was going for a HX929 but the price increase pushed it out of budget and I settled for HX750.
This is a decent TV and I found cnet review mostly right. Colours are too good. Watching NGC and Discovery HD is really a treat. Blacks are really black like an other reviewer noted and its incredibly good. Downside is lost shadow detail. Shadow detail is not less, it simply is gone. Dark areas of picture appear totally black with nothing in detail or texture whatsoever. Motion judder is noticeable in standard and smooth modes (which are the ones recommended for regular use). I had compared this one side-by-side with HX 9 series and the latter humbled this at contrast and depth. HX 929 is still probably the best bet. But I felt the difference in picture doesn't justify the huge premium for 9 series.

Overall, it might be a good TV, but overpriced for what it gives.

**Update**
I now painfully learn that what sony says in specs *youtube*, etc widgets have a fine print. That not the same youtube you would find in your browser. Its a server of videos from youtube, converted and reuploaded so that the TVs can play it. The regular browser cannot play even a single video on any website. Sony's explanation is that flash is not supported. This implies you cannot watch youtube live videos. Alas!
Its now been 50 days of usage and the unit is running absolutely fine.

I bought this from Amazon around Thanksgiving when I wasn't expecting to have to buy a new tv. My previous 40" Sony Z series screen just died unexpectedly and the repairman said it would be $1594.00 to put a new one in. So I researched the sources to get this one which was the same quality level as the Z series and saved $500.00 over the repair cost! Its also 6" bigger diagonally. The picture quality is beautiful and I really can't tell the difference between this one and the 55" HX 850 I bought earlier this summer. Fits nicely in the spot of the old 40 ". Everywhere I went to ask opinions of salespeople about Sony vs. Samsung everyone said they would by Sony with their own money. I might add that this was the first time I've bought an item like a TV on Amazon but it was easy and very quick ( 2days even though I didn't pay for 2 day ship). I wouldn't hesitate to do it with them again.Sound on this model is actually better than my HX 850.Bigger, somewhat front facing speakers at the bottom of the tv. Think this is the best bang for your Sony buck.

Perfect for us! A lot of other reviewers give you the details about this TV...so read on for those. The reason I looked for and purchased this TV was to get a 50 inch SONY LED HDTV for under a grand without all the bells and whistles I don't need. Specifically, the SMART TV features. I already owned a SONY Blu-ray player with wi-fi ($129 2 years ago) that had all of the features of a SMART TV - Netflix, Amazon movies, Pandora, etc. so all I needed was a simply elegant TV, which is what I got. Had it out of the box and set up in under 10 minutes. With, my blu-ray player connected I can access the exact same content that would have been on the much more expensive SMART TV. Picture quality is great. I paired this with a SONY HTCT260 Sound Bar and we couldn't be happier. FYI- the SONY 50 inch TV only has 2 HDMI inputs, so I also purchased from Amazon a Portta PET0301S 3x1 HDMI Switcher with 3D Support. You can plug up to 3 HDMI cords IN-to the switcher with one cord from the switcher OUT to the TV. What I love about it is when I turn a device ON, such as my BluRay Player, the switcher detects it and pushes that image to the screen - realizing that is why I turned it on - because I want to watch the BluRay player!! Genius! It even turns the TV ON if it was off. Although that may be a function of the SONY devices working in harmony rather than the switcher. Either way it's way cool.

All this SONY equipment plus the Cable HD Box left me with 4 unique remotes. Aargh! The wife was not impressed. So, I purchased the SONY Universal Remote RM-VZ320 for about twenty bucks. And, voila!! Happy wife. Happy life!! The remote works great too! Pays to buy ALL SONY. Thanks SONY and AMAZON - a great combination!

p.s. count up how many HDMI cables you'll need and order them at the same time from Amazon - great prices. Ask me how I know? Yep. Forgot to order all the cables. Doh!

I have always purchased Sony tvs and have always been satisfied. For some reason, I saw a Samsung 40" at Sears and decided to order one like it from Amazon. After doing some research and discovering that Samsung was putting cheap Sharp panels (or worse, Chimea panels) on their tvs I found that I could determine whether the tv I received was truly a Samsung tv with a Samsung panel like the one I saw at Sears, or one with the cheaper panel. Sure enough, the Samsung tv I received from Amazon had a cheap Sharp panel, so I returned it to Amazon. I explained to the Amazon rep what the problem was and I wanted a Samsung tv with a Samsung panel, he said he understood and would ship me another tv right away. When I took the tv out of the box, once again it had a Sharp panel, not a Samsung. I asked for return authorization and sent it back, again explaining to the rep why I was returning it. Next thing I know Amazon said I could not order another. When Samsung was caught installing the cheap panels on its tvs it made national news, but Amazon seemed to be completely in the dark, which is kind of hard to believe since many of the reviews clearly stated that people knew they had received Samsung tvs with the cheaper panels on them from Amazon. After reading several reviews on this Sony tv I decided to order it instead. I am completely satisfied with this tv, the picture is just as good, if not better, than the Samsung, and I am wondering why I ever decided to go with the Samsung to begin with. It dawned on me that if a company like Samsung is willing to cheat its customers then I do not want to be buying their products because I no longer know what I am getting. I highly recommend this Sony 40" tv!

Here are the picture settings I got from calibrating this Sony TV using Spears & Munsil HD Calibration Disc and a second free calibration disc. I also pulled & compared several settings from the AVS Forum where many posters had posted their calibration settings (thanks to previous reviewer DCT for the link to the AVS Forum).

Open Settings, choose Eco then turn OFF Light Sensor
Open Settings, choose Picture, then Picture Mode and choose Custom.
Scroll down and then turn OFF Noise Reduction, MPEG Noise Reduction, Motionflow & CineMotion
Scroll down and choose Advance Settings, then turn off Adv. Contrast Enhancer, Black Corrector, Clear White, Live Color and LED Motion Mode (set Gamma to zero)
Scroll up and make the following settings:
Backlight: 5
Picture: 85 (Picture, or contrast, adjusts the intensity of light and brightens white images)
Brightness: 53 (Brightness adjusts the level of black images)
Color: 48
Hue: 0
Sharpness: Min (0) - Set no higher than 8
Color Temperature: Neutral
Scroll down to Advance Settings and then set Adv. Contrast Enhancer to Low

This looks spectacular with a Hi-Def source, but looks way too bright when viewing Standard Def channels. So I set up a 2nd setting in the Picture Mode of Standard.

Open Settings, choose Picture, then Picture Mode and choose Standard (choosing Vivid does not give you access to Advance Settings).
Backlight: 5
Picture: 42
Brightness: 50
Color: 40
Hue: 0
Sharpness: Min (0)
Color Temperature: Neutral
Scroll down to Advance Settings then set Adv. Contrast Enhancer to Medium
Leave everything else set to off or zero

I leave the television's Picture Mode in Standard while channel surfing (Hi & Standard Definition). I switch Picture Mode to Custom (press the OPTIONS button on your remote and choose Picture Mode) when I'm watching Hi-Def channel, movie or blueray. These settings may not exactly match the settings that will work in your room, and I'm certainly no expert, but this should get you started.

The picture quality is stunning and the passive 3D is just plain fun to watch. My only issue is that I cannot get the Netflix app to connect to Netflix. Sony's tech support has been unable to fix the issue either. The included Amazon Instant Video app and all other apps work fine.

Edit 07/20/2013: Sony's tech support fixed the Netflix connection issues. We had to customize the TV's network IP settings and now connects fine.

I have literally been buying a new TV on average every year and a half or so. I always go for the mid line, new technology as I feel that's where I get the most value. This time, I knew exactly what I wanted. I was looking for an LED with at least 120MHZ refresh rate somewhere between 47-55 inches. When I found this, I thought something had to be wrong for a Sony (which I've always looked at as top of the line) to meet all these specs and be at this price. What's even better is it is a 2013 model Sony. I was skeptical until I turned the TV on. Wow. Picture is beautiful; right out of the box. Amazing clarity, color, blacks, you name it. SEN apps work perfect. Internet set up super easy. Only drawback is remote could be a little nicer, but that is hardly worth mentioning at this value. For this price, good luck finding better. Super satisfied with this purchase.
